I kinda disagree with this. We are all used to it now and I couldn't imagine it any other way but my first impression of the name way back when was "what a stupid name"

Agreed. I remember holding The Puppet/Do It Clean import single in my sweet little hands back in 1980 in the local record store and thinking, "What a stupid name for a band." But I liked the song (Do It Clean), so I bought it for the grand sum of $2.99. And now it's valued at between $6.51 and $10.00. I'm rich.

i thought it was a good name, just different to the usual stuff. Similarly the teardrop explodes, but then I heard copes whiney nasaly singing and thought, nah.
