Simple Stuff: different versions ?

Postby lazarus » Sat Apr 26, 2014 3:43 pm

I was listening this evening to Crocodiles (remastered & expanded) and wondered how many versions of Simple Stuff did exist.

So there's the "early version". Is this the only one ?
Was the bside to Rescue a studio version, different to Early Version then ?
Can anyone enlighten me ? Thanks

This song really should be on the album. Great tune, great lyrics with refined irony...

I'm only aware of two versions, the B-side to Rescue and the "early version" both on the Crocodiles re-issue. It was also on a cassette version of Songs To Learn and sing, I think this was the same as the Rescue B-side. "early version" only appeared on the reissue and was a demo.

Simple Stuff fuckin' rocks.

I'm through.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I have it on that Crystal Days boxset too, with no specific detail about the version (but in the booklet there's a 'korova single' mention) so I guess there are only two versions indeed. (tbc)

There were two versions. I don't think it (the "early" version) was a demo, just a different mix to the version that is the b-side to Rescue. Only difference seems to be the use of a drum machine at the start, similar to the opening of Over The Wall, and it's two seconds shorter to the (b-side) single version - that sounds exactly the same, but excludes the drum machine.
