Union Chapel

Excellent Night

Mac in good form with a solid performance and his voice was almost perfect.

Mac seemed to be enjoying himself and seemed very confident behind his guitar. He played with so much enthusiasm that his fingers started to bleed

Highlights for me were Angles and Devils and Zimbo

The Union Chapel is a perfect venue for this kind of intimate gig about 350 or so in attendance

Mac was in high spirits encouraging people to sing along and “Clap” in time

Mac seems to be very chilled out and comfortable with himself these days

Not a lot of banter and all song completed, the two piece string support along with Ian Broudie and Paul Fleming on keyboards gave that extra dimension to the songs

The new songs fit seamlessly into the set and reminiscent of WYGTDWYL and introduced as a classic in fact almost every song was introduced as the best song ever written.

Dunno if Mac is under new management but it seems to work in his favour
At the end of the gig Mac took time out to talk and have photos with his fans including signing copies of his lyric book which was on sale at the end of the gig.

IDOLNESS OF GODS
BED BUGS

Totally agree, a fantastic night, beautiful venue. Zimbo made me cry, Bed Bugs was amazing and the new songs sounded really good. And the icing on the cake was meeting Mac for the first time for real (rather than in my fantasies!) after being a fan for more than 30 years. I was always worried about being disappointed if I actually came face to face with him but he was absolutely charming, funny and even more gorgeous in the flesh. A beautiful little hardback lyric book too.

And as always good to see Mr & Mrs Bunnygod, KOK, Jane & Mark, Jayne & Simon (looking forward to the pics)

a very enjoyable night, lovely setting for a very relaxed intimate gig. macs voice and attitude spot were on,and the added surprise of a meet and greet/signing afterwards.
when he is on form, as has been said many times before it doesn't get any better.
highlights for me angels, fountain, zimbo, rust, the new stuff sounded promising as well, looking forward to hearing the album.
the signing afterwards was the real surprise for me.mac was so relaxed and chatty with everyone.stopping for photo's in-between signing anything that was put in front of him, telling jokes, asking questions, it was great to see him so relaxed.
he did mention during the gig that he had turned a corner with the audience etc... well if this is the result then long may it continue.
3 gigs and not really a bad thing said about any of them, hopefully nights like the one in Brighton are well and truly behind him!

Sounds like a wonderful evening. I hope Mac decides to make a CD of one of these shows so that the rest of us who were not in attendance can enjoy the beauty of his music. Even better, I hope he takes his show on the road on the road here in the US. And I'm glad to hear that he's in control of his devils and demons and putting on a great show with no attitude.

Absolutely gutted! I was literally minutes away from meeting Ian for the first time but I had a train to catch and had to leave. Great show! Fantastic venue too.

You're not the only one mate. If there was a book signing in Liverpool I missed that one (how did people know it was happening, I had no idea?). And I bet the signed book was cheaper than the £35 I've forked out out on Pledge as well. Ah well, never mind, still a cracking show.

The book was £20. I had the cash ready in my back pocket. Oh what heartbreak! I paid £28 on Pledge for the 2 albums that were gonna be signed by Ian. Not the same feeling as actually meeting him.

I hope all you lucky bastards across the pond appreciate the fact he's playing any shows at all. Some of us in the States are jealous and pouting.

Who is the kid on the left playing guitar? Same night Broudie played I think. He looks lost at certain times, maybe playing fools like us with capo did it, anyone else notice Mac plays it with a capo in some shows and without in others?
