The Bunnymen book for the 80's, when they were still together (the name escapes me right now) stated that the chants were Pete's idea, I'm pretty sure. It's locked up in a storage locker on the other side of the world so I can't look it up right now, sorry.

Whose idea was it to play Gregorian chants before the Bunnymen came on stage?

Mine of course - I wanted the gigs to be a religious experience.

Oh, now a triple single just doesn't have the pull for them, but some of the indie bands are doing it out here and the cool kids and hipsters snap it up in vinyl.

Tony Fletcher in Never Stop says

so he seems to be making a connection that may, but probably doesn't exist.

Perhaps it's part conjecture.

Pete came from a large Catholic family, yes, but this was post Vatican 2 when catholics began hearing the mass said in their native language instead of all Latin.

But, because Pete also came from a very musical family, it seems believable.

well it never says, so probably part, whatever you said. there could have been the conversation over a cuppa one evening in the bunnymen flat and thern will had this brillian idea. DId you mean that? ANyone know when they first used it?
