Pete Louis Vincent de Freitas (2 August 1961–14 June 1989) was a musician and producer, best known as a drummer with Echo & the Bunnymen.

In 1961, de Freitas was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and educated by the Benedictines at Downside School. He joined the Bunnymen in 1979. He died in a motorcycle accident in 1989 at the age of 27, on his way to Liverpool from London. His ashes are buried in Goring-on-Thames.

His twin sisters Rose and Rachel were founding members of the band The Heart Throbs.

Also, there are some nice comments on the youtube page and a posting from his daughter.

Also my son's birthday today.

Pete - how Ian could really use your input now.

One of the greatest!

The Bunnymen were definitely never the same after he died. No debating that, IMO. He seemed like a genuinely authentic person, which is pretty rare in modern music.

I always liked the photos of the band in that freaky rehearsal room with the painted walls. I believe that was during the Porcupine sessions, you can even see the xylophone in the pictures. If the Bunnymen (ie, Will and Ian) ever want to make another relevant album they need to get the band in there like they did for Porcupine and just start making music together as a band. No more of this Ian off somewhere writing half-ass pop songs with shitty lyrics with some lame producer and then presenting them to the band to record under the Bunnymen name.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but I ran across while watching that memorial to Pete:

Mr. Sparkle gets my vote for whatever office he wants to run for.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Judging solely from the interview and Pete's taking off at one point, I think he'd have left just like Les.
