Slideling era Mac interview

Postby fat cherry » Mon Apr 12, 2010 4:53 am

I just came across this slideling era interview - has this one been linked on here before? Ought to look really didn't I.

http://www.atomicduster.com/interviews/ian_mcculloch/index.php

interesting comment of the interview:

AD: So how did the writing differ between this and the stuff you've done with Will?

IM: It didn't differ a lot at all. All I used to do with Will was say "This is what I've got. Now paint your bit on it" and that's how it's always been pretty much. I think it was Les who came up with that riff for "The Killing Moon" but even that was written the same way really.

and mac cliche moment - on Donnie Darko

I haven't seen "Donnie Darko" yet, loads of my mates have been saying they think it's the best use of a song in a film ever.

I would actually agree with that being the best use of a song in a movie. Admittedly I am biased towards that song but it really does affect the mood of the movie in a way I have never seen.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Unlike the rambling bollox he spouts nowadays, he was quite witty in that interview. Except for his criticism of the great Noel Burke of course.

He's constantly contradicting himself.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

Actually he softened his tone on Noel saying it wasn't fair to him. And it wasn't. I mean replacing Mac? Is St. Vitus Dance active or was the reunion just a one off thing?

Reverberation is comparable to Heaven up Here, and on the records even the vocals, though different, are comparable to Mac's. Live, Mac was the best. Of course, if Rozi Plain had been old enough to take over, we'd be asking who that Mac bloke was.
